Burleson Just Went Film Friendly. Here’s What That Means for Your House.
Burleson is officially a Film Friendly Texas Certified Community.
That sounds like a plaque for city hall. It’s not. It’s a listing — and Burleson is now on it.
What actually happened
The certification comes from the Texas Film Commission, part of the Governor’s office. To earn it, the city went through the state’s training, set up a film liaison, and in June the city council updated its public events ordinance to add “filming productions” as an allowed event. Productions now pull a permit when they need to close a street or use public property.
Here’s the part most people miss. When a production is scouting Texas, the Film Commission can send one email to every certified community at once. Location requests. Casting calls. Burleson now gets that email.
Why this matters right now
Productions follow money. In 2025, Texas passed Senate Bill 22, which puts $300 million into the state’s film incentive fund every two years through 2035. That’s $1.5 billion, and for the first time, it’s predictable. Studios can plan around Texas instead of gambling on it.
North Texas is already catching it. Fort Worth’s film office has credited production with more than $700 million in local impact. The Chosen built its set in Midlothian — that’s practically next door.
Burleson raising its hand at this exact moment is not an accident.
What it means for you
Your property could be a location. Productions pay private owners to film on their land and in their homes. Acreage, a farmhouse, a pretty porch, a storefront in Old Town. Burleson has a LOT of what Westerns and small-town stories need.
Local dollars. Crews eat, sleep, fuel up and rent equipment. That money lands at Burleson businesses.
Visibility. Every time Burleson shows up on screen, it’s free marketing for the city — and for every home in it.
Now the honest part. Film Friendly doesn’t mean a crew is showing up next month. It’s a door, not a check. And if a production does come, you may run into a closed street for a day. The permit process is how the city keeps that in check.
The bigger pattern
Last year Burleson earned its Tourism Friendly certification. This year, Film Friendly. City staff have already said the next goal is Music Friendly.
That’s a city planning for people to WANT to come here. When a city invests in being a destination, home values tend to follow the people. (A boutique Hilton is on the way, too.)
And if you’ve got a creative kid, Burleson ISD’s film festival is taking entries through December 1. Start them young.
