Burleson ISD: What Buyers Should Actually Know
One of the first things families ask about Burleson: “How are the schools?”
Fair question. Here’s the honest answer — including the part nobody tells you until it matters.
The basics
Burleson ISD has served this community since 1909. Today it’s about 12,600 students across roughly 20 campuses. Class sizes run about 15 students per teacher.
The Texas Education Agency gave the district an overall B in its 2024 rating. Not perfect. Solid. And every campus has its own grade, so look up the specific school your home feeds into.
The part that surprises people: choice
Most suburbs give you one school based on your street. Burleson ISD gives families a menu.
- Game Development Design School — grades 6–12, built around game design and tech
- STEAM Academy at Stribling and STEAM Middle School of Choice
- Norwood Environmental Science Academy
- Academy of Leadership and Technology at Mound
- Burleson Collegiate High School — students can earn college credit while in high school
- Burleson High School and Centennial High School for the traditional path
The district also handles in-district and out-of-district transfer requests. If a specific program matters to your family, ask about it BEFORE you pick a house.
The arts are a real thing here
In August, the Texas Art Education Association named Burleson ISD a District of Distinction — for the fifth year in a row. The district also runs its own student film festival, which fits nicely now that Burleson is a Film Friendly city.
The detail buyers miss
A Burleson address does NOT guarantee Burleson ISD.
Burleson’s school lines don’t match its city lines. The two biggest new communities on the west side, Chisholm Summit and Tallgrass, are both zoned to Joshua ISD.
I check the zoned school on every home before you write an offer. Never assume.
Coming up
- College Fair: October 26, 6–8 p.m., Burleson High School
- Esports Fall Invitational: November 7
- Student Film Festival entries due: December 1
- School year: classes run through May 20, 2027
One more useful note: the district currently has no bond election on the calendar.
Bottom line
Burleson ISD is a solid, well-rated district with more school choice than most families expect. The smart move is matching the home to the school — not the other way around.
