Home for the Holidays in Southlake: a newcomer's guide
November 3, 2026 · Holidays ยท Southlake, Texas
If you just moved to Southlake, the tree lighting at Town Square is the first holiday date to put on your calendar, and this year it is Saturday, November 21, 2026. I checked every 2026 event date in this post against Visit Southlake, the city's own tourism site. Where a 2026 date is not posted, I say so and send you to the official page instead of guessing.
The downside first, because nobody puts it on the flyer. This is an outdoor evening in November, the official page does not mention a shuttle or a weather plan, and the city strongly discourages bringing pets because of the cold, the excitement and the loud noise. If your dog hates fireworks, this is the night to leave him home.
What is confirmed for 2026
Two things are posted with real dates:
Home for the Holidays tree lighting: Saturday, November 21, 2026, 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., at 1400 E. Southlake Blvd. The tree lighting itself is at 6:00 p.m., with fireworks right after. Details are on the Visit Southlake tree lighting page.
Holiday of Lights: November 21 through January 3, 2027, every day from 5 to 10 p.m., at McPherson Park, 1297 Division St. It is free, with no reservation and no ticket. Details are on the Holiday of Lights page.
Everything else on the holiday calendar is in the "not posted yet" section below, and I would treat it that way until the official page changes.
How the tree lighting night works
Admission is free and parking is free. Visit Southlake posts an event map and a parking map on the tree lighting page, and both are worth a look before you leave the house if you do not know Town Square yet. Here is what the 2026 page lists:
Photos with Santa.
A 3-lane snow hill. Yes, in North Texas in November.
Local school groups performing seasonal music on stage.
Craft Corner activities, which the page says are all free.
The tree lighting at 6:00 p.m., followed by the fireworks show.
A few rules a newcomer would not guess. Coolers are allowed. Outside alcohol and glass containers are not. Accessible parking is on Main Street in front of Bath & Body Works and Mi Cocina, and you enter from the east or west side of Main.
What happened last year
These are 2025 details, not 2026 promises, so check the event map before you count on them. Last year each family got one free 4x6 photo with Santa, and the local news site pointed people to two parking garages: the East Garage at 1451 Federal Way and the West Garage at 351 State Street. A commemorative ornament, pin and t-shirt were available at the information booth while supplies lasted. Food vendors were on site, including hot cocoa.
Notes for your first year here
A few things I would tell anyone new to the area:
Watch the school calendar. DFWChild's summary of the Carroll ISD calendar lists November 23 to 25 as flex days and November 26 and 27 as Thanksgiving break, so the tree lighting lands right before Thanksgiving week. If your address is in a different district, check that district's calendar. A Southlake address does not guarantee Carroll ISD, and I explain that in my Southlake schools guide.
Learn Town Square before the big night. The event map makes a lot more sense if you have walked the blocks once in daylight. My Town Square guide covers what is there and why it was built the way it was.
If four hours on a Saturday is not your idea of a good time, the Holiday of Lights is the easier option. It is a walking loop around the lake of about a third of a mile, it runs every evening for about six weeks, and food vendors are there on Fridays and Saturdays.
Plan your own arrival. I could not find a published attendance number I would cite, so I am not giving one. The tree lights at 6:00, and the official page does not post a shuttle, so leave yourself time to park and walk.
What is not posted yet
This is the list I want you to read carefully, because the internet will happily hand you last year's date. As of November 3, 2026, here is what I found on Visit Southlake:
Santa's Village: the official page lists Rustin Pavilion, 1400 E. Southlake Blvd. No 2026 dates or hours are posted.
Sounds of the Season Holiday Concert: the only date on the official page is from 2024. The 2026 date is not posted.
DPS Toy Drive: the official page says December 1 to December 18 but gives no year, so I am not calling that confirmed for 2026. It lists drop-offs at DPS HQ, 600 State Street; DPS North, 100 East Dove Road; and DPS West, 2100 West Southlake Boulevard.
The Rink at Southlake Town Square: it was billed as Southlake's first-ever ice rink in 2024. I found nothing on the holiday page for 2026, so do not plan around it until it is posted.
Christmas tree recycling: Visit Southlake lists it on the holiday page and links to the city's recycling page. I could not confirm 2026 dates, so check there in late December.
If you want an answer sooner, Visit Southlake's published contact is 817.748.8919 or visitinfo@visitsouthlaketexas.com. Dates can move, including the ones I confirmed, so give the official page one last look that week.
Why I bother with a post like this
When you buy in a new city, you are buying the calendar along with the house. Nobody tells you which Saturday the whole town is at the same place, or where to park when they are. That is the kind of thing you normally learn your second year.
I would rather you learn it your first. If you are still deciding on Southlake, the holidays are a fair time to look around, because you get to see the city doing what it does, and the parks and the history are worth an afternoon of your time too. If you are already here, go find a snow hill in November and tell your relatives in another state about it.

New to Southlake, or thinking about it? Set up a call with me and I will walk you through the city, the school district lines and what is actually for sale. My Southlake page is a good place to start.
I help buyers and sellers across the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex — Fort Worth,
Burleson, Southlake, Crowley and Keller, and the surrounding Dallas area. I write these because
they are the questions I answer on the phone every week, and most people never get a straight
answer to them. If you have one I have not covered, ask me — I will probably turn it into
the next post.
