What it's like

The short version

Flower Mound covers about 42 square miles in Denton County, with Grapevine Lake along much of its southern edge and DFW Airport about 4 miles south. Homes run large, Parker Square serves as a compact main-street center, and Lakeside DFW is a 265-acre business district by the lake.

What's for sale

Homes run large, and Furst Ranch is approved to add new supply over the coming decades.

What it does well

Strong here

  • Parks and trails●●●
The town ran 54 parks and recreation sites on 693 acres as of 2012.
  • Lake days●●●
Grapevine Lake and Marshall Creek form much of the southern boundary.
  • Horses welcome●●○
The town has 2 miles of equestrian trails, and 9 more run mostly around Grapevine Lake.
  • New construction●●○
Furst Ranch is approved for about 3,000 single-family homes among its 9,000 units.
  • Established neighborhoods●●○
The town's fast growth dates to the 1974 opening of DFW Airport.

The honest part

What to know first

  • Furst Ranch brings about 9,000 approved homes to U.S. 377 and Cross Timbers Road, with phased construction over decades.
  • Most of town is in Lewisville ISD, but the west side splits among Argyle, Denton and Northwest ISDs, and the Tarrant County part is in Grapevine-Colleyville ISD.

Not its strength: walkable, transit options, quiet, small-town pace, vibrant, big-city energy, a real downtown, shopping, luxury homes.

Not rated yet: restaurants, nightlife, golf, land and acreage. That means I haven't confirmed it either way, not that it isn't here.
